There is no law requiring a home to be inspected before it is sold. In most cases, an inspection is requested by the buyer's lending institution. Real estate inspections are available from the Fairfield County Health Department for a fee.
What an inspection may include
Household sewage treatment system
The system is inspected for indications that it is working properly, in compliance with current regulations, and not causing a public health nuisance.
Private water system (well)
The well is inspected for compliance with current regulations, and a water sample is collected for bacterial analysis (Total Coliform and E. coli bacteria).
