Cribs for Kids

The Fairfield County Health Department partners with the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Maternal, Child and Family Health, to provide Cribettes® and safe sleep education to eligible families (while quantities last). Cribettes® are certified compliant with Consumer Product Safety Commission standards and come in a safe sleep kit that also includes a fitted sheet and educational materials. To receive a kit, families must complete a safe sleep education session covering infant safe sleep practices and proper use of the Cribette®.

Cribette® set-up instructional videos are available in English (opens in a new window, leaves this site) and Spanish (opens in a new window, leaves this site).

The ABCs of safe sleep:

A, Alone  ·  B, on their Back  ·  C, in a Crib

There are about 3,500 sleep-related deaths among U.S. babies each year. Fairfield County Health Department encourages all parents to follow these guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics to keep every baby happy, healthy and safe.

Infant safe sleep tips

  • The safest place for your baby to sleep is in the room where you sleep, but not in your bed.
  • Never place babies to sleep on adult beds, chairs, sofas, waterbeds, pillows, cushions or soft surfaces.
  • Dress your baby in sleep clothing such as a sleep sack, do not use a blanket.
  • Avoid overheating; keep the room comfortable for a lightly clothed adult.
  • Ensure your baby receives all recommended vaccinations.
  • Breastfeeding is recommended to help reduce the risk of SIDS.
  • Avoid smoke exposure during pregnancy and after birth; keep the crib in a smoke-free area.
  • Provide supervised, awake tummy time daily to support development.
  • Consider a pacifier at nap and bedtime once breastfeeding is well established.
  • Ask everyone who cares for your baby to place them on their back for every sleep.
  • Obtain regular prenatal care and avoid alcohol and illicit drugs during and after pregnancy.
