Our commitment
The Fairfield County Health Department is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We want every resident to be able to find public health information and services regardless of how they access the web, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time project.
Conformance status
This website is designed and tested to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the technical standard referenced by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. We review the site on an ongoing basis to maintain that level of conformance.
What we have done
- Text and background colors meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a “Skip to main content” link.
- Images include descriptive alternative text, and decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
- Pages use clear headings, landmark regions, and form labels so assistive technology can navigate them.
- The site is responsive and readable across phones, tablets, and desktops, and it respects reduced-motion preferences.
- Larger default text and generous spacing support readers of all ages and abilities.
Compatibility
This website is built to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari) and with common assistive technologies, including screen readers and screen magnifiers. For the best experience, we recommend using the most recent version of your browser and assistive software.
Known limitations
Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- Posted documents (PDFs): some older documents may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We are remediating these and can provide an accessible version on request.
- Third-party content: embedded maps, calendars, data dashboards, and social media feeds are supplied by outside vendors and may not fully meet our standards. We can help you obtain the same information in another format.
Request information or report a barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or need information from this website in an alternative format — such as large print, an accessible PDF, or by phone — please contact us and we will work with you to provide what you need.
When reporting a problem, it helps to include the web address (URL) of the page, a description of the issue, and the best way to reach you. We aim to respond within five business days.
